On April 1st, Andrew Mbaruk and I released a digital album called Reflective Tape. Andrew is one of my favourite rappers. He is criminally underrated though there are reasons for that. His output is inhuman, releasing multiple projects a month. A few days after we put this project to the public, he had already released another one. And he put out two albums while we were working on this one!
While I deeply admire his word play and rhyming, I never quite thought Andrew received the production he deserves. The bulk of his many projects seem to be produced by himself using guitar, bass and synthetic drums. Other projects produced by people other than himself are not quite the kind of beats I wanted to hear him on.
With this in mind I sent him a folder of beats, including some I had made specifically for him and other that I had lying around that I though suited his style. I am very happy with the results. I like this album and I hope others will too. I realize that this music isn’t for everybody. None of what I really do is for mass consumption. Not that I’d be against it, but I just know what kind of music I make.
